“Tatting is an ancient European technique, made exquisitely by hand, a very fine variety of lace. Used in ancient times, exclusively by royalty and aristocracy. It receives different names in some countries:

• tatting, in France
  lace to the shuttle, in Spain
  tatting, in Great Britain
  Chiacchierino, in Italy
  makuk, in the East.

It consists of mounting a succession of knots and baguillas on a single thread with the help of one or two shuttles. Or also with a needle, an element similar to the small hand sewing needle.”
