The hair natural color is Camel or tan, like brownish, sometimes reddish. The tones can vary depending on the animal’s age and each of the fibers’ length. The longer the hair and the older the camel, the darker the tones of the blanket, resulting in even a black color.
Camel hair is considered to be the most insulating fiber among the existing natural fibers.
Shearing and Combing
The camel (Camelus bactrianus) changes its hair once a year. This is the time when combers and shearers take the opportunity to pull out the camel’s fine hair by using a special tool designed for such purpose. The person in charge of collecting the fiber watches the animals from the beginning of spring to the beginning of summer, the time when the camels change their hair. By fall, the camel would have already created a new set of hair to go through the winter.
